Swinford made two costly errors last night, one was a potential double play-do we have anybody else? Let's get a lineup we can WIN with!
ReplyDeleteMust be the heat of the summer, but...what's with everyone's negative attitude here on the blog the last two weeks? Swinford had three hits including a basehit to begin the 9th.
ReplyDeleteLOL...not being negative-it's fact and in the books! I'm talking defense-they lost by 3 and 2 errors contributed to that.
ReplyDeleteApparently his offensive contribution didn't offset the lack of defense.
You win as a team, you lose as a team. The Outlaws left 13 men on base last night, that hurts. Everyone does everything they can. The Scorpions made 5 errors opening night, and two last night, and they've come out alright. The Outlaws need to score more than 3 and 2 runs.
ReplyDeleteYou're the consumate diplomat Joe, if they win as a team and lose as a team why are you keeping individual stats?
ReplyDeleteBecause statistics are important. But to insist that a certain player in the lineup constitues a failure to make a "winning" lineup is negativity. Again, I've left the posting process to the blog available to anonymous comment. Obviously, whomever made the comment is an Outlaws fan, as they were checking the blog for the lineup pretty early...but...And it wasn't just this comment, but there's been an undercurrent of negativity recently that isn't so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm a team employee, thus my broadcast is a "homer" broadcast. I don't think I've been harsh with anyone's play this summer. I like everyone one of these guys. I wouldn't have a job without these guys out on the field. So, I'll defend them to the hilt.
Yuma heat must be an advantage for the home team. But something else seems to be going on. Why was Kevin Altman released? REALLY? Consumate diplomat, please tell! I am sure a lot of players are happy to be close to home; usually they are happy to have a job. Being released generally comes with a story. And the day after a victory?
ReplyDeleteVery interesting blog.......there is a saying I'm sure you have heard-you're only as good as your weakest link!
ReplyDeleteHi Joe....just wantd to say thank you for the shout out from my son Darrick Hale!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice surprise as I listen to the game tonight. Thanks again you made my night!
Go Outlaws! woo hoo holla!
Joe,as I write this I know you are probably riding north after a long hot road trip. It's actually been about as hot here but at least it's home. First, you have some communication w/Pointstreak so I'm hoping that the two "lost games" and their respective stats will be reconciled. If Yuma can't have people that know how to use the software maybe GBL can do something.
ReplyDeleteSecond. For my part I hope you don't consider my input as "negative". It may appear to be critical but believe me, I know that we fans are considered by those on the inside to be much less than expert when it comes to the game so my points are more questions based on confusion and are in no way accusatory. A lot of where I come from is based on some disappointment that Jayce and Cadaret have almost completely turned over a team that had overall talent and history in the community. A degree of loyalty existed that just got blown away for a team that for the most part is not better talent wise than much of the team that was. What it is, though, is a team that is not really the Outlaws but a hybrid of Jayce's Reno connections, Cadaret's Winter League connections and, by almost half, the Yuma Scorpions North. So when I am confused by some consistent poor performances (as there have been), I wonder why proven talent was traded or released. Was it for a way to make this team a whole product of new management? Loyalty and talent should both count for something. I appreciate the dialogue and the forum.
Ditto. There clearly is a need to put a new "mark" on the team and many talented players were sent packing for a number of untried unknowns with "connections" to the current management. If that was going to be the plan, it should have been clearly stated before players wasted time, money, and a chance to play elsewhere with meaningless tryouts. And the whole Yuma fiasco is just that. So Chico now has some Yuma players, so do other teams, and all in all, I guess 22 players got cheated out of an off season of hard work. If the league knew this affiliation was going to happen, that too shouldn't have been so secret. It is sad when last year's player of the year adorns the cover of the handout at all the games and he toils for the Orange County Flyers.......he had a following. And if you wanted to do like was done with Kevin Altman, then why wasn't Blake Gailen allowed to play "close to home?" Oh, well, Steve Boggs is closer to his home.
ReplyDeleteLike Donald Southerland (Oddball)said to Gavin MacLeod(Moriarty)In Kelly's Heros:
ReplyDelete"Oh man; don't hit me with negative waves so early in the morning."
I Think the lousy umpiring has a huge effect on the morale of the players. How can the pitchers find the zone much less the batters. I am not there to see the game but from the broadcast I get the impression that we have had several out calls when the players were safe.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to know why Cadaret leaves some of the pitchers on the mound too long.
To Anonymous "ditto"-the players acquired at the last minute share your feelings about time wasted, money spent, meaningless tryouts and the whole Yuma fiasco, equals DITTO!
ReplyDeleteI agree the league had to have known about the affiliation pending and should NOT have been a secret.
It was a surprise and a disappointment to EVERY player involved-it wasn't their decision, you're mad at the wrong people. If you want to be mad, be mad at the league who made the decisions!
I love listening to the games - win or lose. What I appreciate most is the fact that these boys are getting a chance to do what they love, and, Joe, you support them no matter what! Great job to you, GBL, and all our athletes.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a disgruntled parent whose kid is sitting on the bench or player that has it in for Dale.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, Dale is batting .337 which puts him in the top 20 in the league. His OBP ranks 10th in the league. And of course, he is number one in the league for being HBP. He is ranked up there for stolen bases, too. My guess is that he is trying too hard, rushing the plays, and making mental mistakes. I don't know what your excuse is.
Ditto to Kathy Marshbank!
ReplyDeleteLOL.....thanks for the update on Dale Mr. and Mrs. Swinford!
ReplyDeleteI'm not Dale's parent - just an educated Sunnyvale fan.
ReplyDeleteI'm Dale's mom!
ReplyDeleteJoe I really appreciate the way you support the guys. They are all playing their hearts out and I love listening to the games, win or lose. And as Gailen's Grandmother I can only say
ReplyDeleteGO OUTLAWS
I think we can close out this discussion. Kevin Altman was given the opportunity to make half-a-dozen starts, and the Outlaws made the decision to move on. There was no "let's get him closer to home" motive behind the move. I did not mean to imply there ever was. I said as a former team-member of ours, we were happy to see him get signed again quickly, and by happenstance, get to play near his Riverside residence.
ReplyDeleteAs far as old Outlaws being gone, I see it as a non-issue. Look at the local talent we have on the team now. Janeway, White, and Silverman are local GBL veterans. Bay Area rookies Dale Swinford and Mikael Ryder are making great contributions. An outfield rounded out by Mehl and Gailen are hitting around the .400 mark.
There are great story lines and personalities all the way up and down the 22 man roster. I'm new here as well, so maybe I've just got the "now" blinders on...but, that's what baseball is. It's a different drama every summer, and this year's outfit, whether from Reno or Timbuktu are a competitive bunch that's giving it their all.
WHAT? I'm Dale's Mom.....
ReplyDeleteBTW....educated Sunnyvale fan, you forgot one stat-he also is in the top 5 in the league for number of errors! CHeck it out on pointstreak if you don't belive me....
ReplyDeleteOh.....and #1 for Chico in errors, guess you forgot to mention that.
