Here we are back in the United States, and in Fullerton, California. Goodwin Field is home to the very successful Cal State-Fullerton baseball team. They won the College World Series not too long ago. The Flyers manager Phil Nevin played here and won the Golden Spikes award, which is the Heisman of college baseball.
The trip has been alright. The motel is a pretty good distance from the ballpark. The last van, which I was on, didn't get to the ballpark today much before 5pm. The motel is also not the greatest. No internet, no shampoo...you get the idea.
But...it's time to get going on a winning streak. We play South division opponents until we return to Canada and play Edmonton in August. This is the third time we've matched up with Orange County. The Outlaws are 5-1 against the Flyers.
Lineups shortly...

Well....I understand what you are saying regarding accomodations-but last time I was in Chico the hotel didn't have some ammenities you would think would be standard.....so, not sure why you are surprised
ReplyDeleteI'm just surprised by the shampoo.
ReplyDeleteCome to Half Moon Bay Joe...We'll put you up at the Ritz Carlton...

Cheap hotel...........no shampoo, no internet. In addition, look at the attendance at the Orange County games. You played to almost 400 fans last night. How much longer is Orange County for the Golden Baseball League?
ReplyDeleteIt's a league-wide reciprication issue. Yes, it's a bargain basement motel, not a tent in a parking lot. However, you've got 25 guys who have to spend 4 days there. Some creature comforts, and meeting the league-wide minimum of standards...are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteTry playing a double header. The Flyers feed their own team and neglect to even have a peanut butter sandwich for the opposition between games after they have spent all their day in the roach motel. They do all they can to define home field advantage not to mention avoiding even the modicum of meeting the league wide minimum of standards. Edmonton and Victoria help to make up for what the Flyers subject the opponents to.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Edmonton is First Class-5 star hotel, fly everywhere no matter how close, etc., etc.,
ReplyDeleteI should clarify this. The hometeam is responsible for providing the hotel for the visiting team. In Chico, the teams stay at the Holiday Inn. I can't wait to get to Edmonton. With their NHL ownership, we supposedly stay the same place downtown the NHL teams play.
ReplyDeleteIt's a five star hotel.............complete with a magnificent shopping mall.........and across the street from a casino. The Edmonton players live there (no host families). Clearly some teams are in a position to treat both their players and the visiting team better than others, but the Flyers do all they can to define home town advantage. And some of it is probably because they are flat broke. They play all their double headers just because they must pay to use the field. Don't see them in the GBL next year and if somehow they survive, I imagine they will be given "minimums" in terms of how they treat visitors.
